On the occasion of the worldwide celebration of the 400th anniversary of the assumption of Domenicos Theotokopoulos (1614-2014), the Hatzivei School organized the event "Getting to know El Greco".The event aimed at children, parents, and teachers to come into contact with the life and work of the Greek painter.
The event took place on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. at the school (Adanon 17, N. Philadelphia).
As part of the event:
- Illustrator Anthi Valsamaki, who is in charge of the Benaki Museum's hagiographic workshop, analyzed unknown aspects of El Greco's work.
- Sixth grade students presented the life of El Greco.
- On the same day, an art exhibition of works by students participating in the school's art workshops was presented. The works are inspired by the paintings of El Greco.
- Τhe children participated in experiential activities to get to know the painter and his work, entitled "Discovering El Greco!".
The teachers of the artistic department of the school designed and implemented original activities regarding the time when the Greek painter lived, his place of residence, his life, and his work adapted to each age group.
Then the exhibition was transferred to the World Cultural Foundation of the Hellenism of the Diaspora, which in collaboration with the Hatzivei School organized the art exhibition on the subject: "In Search of El Greco". The exhibition consisted of visual works by Greek artists, works by students of the art workshops of the Hatzivei School, and photographs. The exhibition took place from 18-21 December 2014 at PPIED (152 Dekeleias Street and Attalya's 2, N. Philadelphia, Tel.: 213 2049155).
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at 20:00. The exhibition was an opportunity for the visitor to approach the work of El Greco through the eyes of artists of our times.
